Compost can improve soil health and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It saves the community money by reducing the amount of solid waste that the District must manage. The compost derived from food and kitchen waste is an excellent amendment for soil and home gardens. The compost is less costly than buying enriched soil, or soil additives at garden centers, Composting can be a fun and educational experience for both, adults and children.WHAT CAN YOU COMPOST ?The District has provided guidance on what materials are suited for home composting. These include: Bread, Grains, Pasta, Eggshells, Coffee Grounds and Coffee Filters. Fruit, Leafy Greens & Vegetables — Whole, Cut Pieces or Peels,Yard Trimmings & Leaves can provide valuable carbon to your compost. Proteins such as fish, meat or dairy should not be composted and can be discarded with your regular household trash.
